Morning Drug

It’s 7:30 am, and as every other morning you stand in line as other people do the same around you. Everybody sharing your demise has the same zombie-esque look.

Slowly but surely, you are walking towards your morning fuel. The closer you get, the stronger the smell and your hands get warmer by the second. You then start to dig into your pockets for the crucial set of quarters and nickels. Your eyes now get bigger as you are awakening from the sleep that enslaved your body for the past 8 hours; away from productivity.

You begin to hear sounds that were not existent earlier this morning. When all of a sudden, you see a young lady wearing a green apron and a black cap who casually yells out loud: “Next please!”

Your time has now come, you have been waiting for this chance to speak your mind and your entire day depends on this moment. You slowly pace yourself towards the counter. Following the greetings, you then compliment her on her new glasses, which adds a little je ne sais quoi. She blushes. After a short giggling she gets down to business, asking you if you will be having the usual. You confirm that it will indeed be the usual and hand over the change from your pocket.

Moments later, you walk out of the coffee shop with a warm cup of dark roast coffee in your hands. After taking that first sip, the caffeine wildly rushes through your body alerting every sense from head to toe. The moment of euphoria is cut short by the vibration of your cellphone, which reminds you of your 8 0’clock meeting.

The morning coffee (or tea for others) is an essential ritual of our day, having a balanced morning with the elements required to pursue a productive day is necessary.

Trust me life is great. Take a sip of that warm cup of caramel macchiato and enjoy the little things in life, you’ll see that the road ahead is not as bad as it seems.
